A s we bid goodbye to Autumn/Winter, makeup takes on a more cheerful persona. Stash those dark, depressing colours away and make room for brighter, happier shades that not only lift your mood, but will also make you look younger too!

We’d prefer not to prattle on, so feast your eyes on these beauties and be inspired!

Clé de Peau Beauté

The inspiration: the Mediterranean – blue skies, shimmering seas and sand.

The look: deep sapphire smoky eyes paired with satiny pink-hued lips. We like how they paired an unexpected shade of dark blue with brown, which can be a tad boring and predictable at times.

Dior ‘Cherie Bow’

The inspiration: three of Dior’s signature icons – the ribbon bow, the houndstooth print, and the can’t-go-wrong colour combo of pink and grey.

The look: Pink makes its presence felt throughout this younger, more vibrant collection (if compared with Dior’s previous collections, which focused on bringing out the brand’s luxe image).

During our interview with professional makeup artist KF Bong, he mentioned that pinks with grey undertones are great for Asian skin colours. Kudos to Dior for releasing a collection that we can use without looking like someone punched us in the eye.

OPI

The inspiration: sensational diva and mother-of-two Mariah Carey.

The look: Trust the experts to come up with a new way to jazz up boring-ol’ nail polish (and by experts we mean OPI). We’ve seen textures like matte and shatter, and now there’s liquid sand, a pebbled, matte finish studded with flecks of glitter. It kind of reminds us of tar, but in a good way. Nothing bad can be said about things with glitter! These 8 new shades are available at Colour Culture for RM59 each.

Bonus look 1: Embossed palettes

They’re almost too pretty to be used, but if we were given the choice between normal pressed eyeshadows or embossed ones, we’d go for the latter every single time.

Clockwise from top left: Cosme Decorte AQMW, Lancôme, Esprique, Chanel

Bonus look 2: A reason to travel

These aren’t available on Malaysian shores, but they’re so pretty we decided that they deserve a mention! If you or your friends are going to Hong Kong (they carry Lavshuca in selected Watsons and departmental stores) or Japan (you can find both Addiction and Lavshuca there), remember to get your hands on these goodies!

Lavshuca

We let out a collective squeal of delight when we saw Lavshuca’s Spring 2013 collection – it’s super adorable! Everything’s so girly and pink. Our fave has got to be the Lav Hearty Puff Powder, ¥1470 (approx. RM60), a furry heart-shaped powder puff that’s infused with a fruity-scented powder for face and body.

Addiction Beauty

Just one look at these super-cool lipglosses, and we want to blow our savings on all five! At ¥2625 (approx. RM100) a pop, they’re not cheap, but hey, who’s counting? If you’ve got extra cash, there’s also matching nail polishes so you can rock the lips-and-tips look.
