O ne of the most important things to bear in mind when jet-setting all around the globe is how much luggage space you have. If you can’t live without your skincare (like me!), then these products will certainly come in handy. Best of all, they come in super-convenient sizes – all five fit into a small toiletry bag with space to spare!
#1 – Facial Scrub
Choose a mild scrub that will gently slough off and dirt, grime and dullness. After a long day out, your skin will welcome a deep-cleanse. Just remember: don’t rub your skin too hard! Gentle, circular motions will do.
Try: Sothys Blackberry-Apple Mineral Oxygenating Set (promo at RM298, normal price RM426)
The scrub-mask contains pink clay to purify and detox. Massage over face and leave on for a few minutes before rinsing off. Follow with the treatment serum, which contains a cocktail of minerals, apple polyphenols and blackberry extracts to protect and strengthen your skin from the environment.
#2 – Whitening Serum
Apart from using a broad-spectrum sunblock, give your skin SOS in the evening by applying whitening serum all over your face and neck, concentrating on pigmentation-prone areas like your cheeks and nose.
Try: Burt’s Bees Daisy White Serum (RM153)
What we like most about this serum is that it’s fluid-like and transparent, so it won’t interfere with your makeup. Warm 2 pumps in your palms and pat onto your skin while breathing in the lovely floral scent.
#3 – Eye Cream
Banish panda-eyes and puffiness (which can be caused by jet lag) with an eye cream that has a built-in roller to promote blood circulation. If you’re worried about lines around your lips, massage them away with eye cream!
Try: Methode SWISS Thermal Oxygen Soothing Eye Cream (RM165, from Sa Sa)
Swiss Thermal Water is well-known for its skin-calming properties. Glide the metal rollerball across the lower eyelid. As a bonus, use it to press on lymphatic nodes to help drain away water retention.
#4 – All-Day Moisturizer
Instead of bringing a day cream and a night cream, settle for an all-day moisturizer that does the work for you. If you have dry skin, reapply a bit more on areas prone to dryness.
Try: Novexpert Expert Anti-Aging Fluid (RM178, from Sa Sa)
100% natural without any harmful ingredients, Novexpert carries a wide range of anti-aging products that are friendly on sensitive skin. This is enriched with stem cells, green tea and aloe vera to keep skin comfortably hydrated all day long. Novexpert is also available online at Plincco.
#5 – BB Cream
Forget lugging around a whole storeroom of beauty products while on holiday. A BB cream provides sun protection, colour correction and coverage, along with skincare benefits like hydration, anti-aging and oil control.
Try: Hada Labo Air BB Cream (RM55.90)
We’re a big fan of Hada Labo’s Hyaluronic Acid Lotion, so finding the same ingredient in a BB cream is indeed something worth talking about. The texture is super-lightweight, great for tropical destinations. Comes in two shades: Natural Beige (light) and Ivory Beige (medium).
Tried-and-true tips from a beauty junkie
Tip 1: When travelling, choose products that come in tubes instead of jars, which are heavier and bulkier. Tubes are also spill-proof, and you don’t have to make sure they stay upright all the time.
Tip 2: To prevent your products from spilling out (due to changes in air pressure during the flight), before opening the tubes, tap them against a tabletop (with the cap facing upwards) so that air bubbles trapped inside the product come up to the surface. Now you can uncap your tubes without having everything gushing out.
