T his weekend, we take a look at what’s been going on in town.

Food: Non-alcoholic wine now available in Malaysia

Now our Muslim friends and teetotalers can enjoy champagne or wine, the halal and non-alcoholic way.  Ambrosia Trading recently launched a series of premium non-alcohol beverages, which are bottled like wines and champagnes.

The 1688 Grand Rose from France (RM56.90) is made from 100% pure red and white grapes, with a subtle Muscat flavor. It goes well with sweet and sour dishes, like fish, shrimp and white meat. Alternatively, it can also be paired with dessert.

The Inah series from South Africa (RM43.90) are distinctively fruity, with three versions: Merlot (best paired with curries and spicy food), Cabernet Sauvignon (compliments steaks and stews) and Shiraz (great with cheese).

During the launch, Chef Ismail demonstrated creative ways to incorporate the beverages into our daily dishes. These new beverages are currently available at supermarkets BIG, Cold Storage, Mercato, Village Grocer and AEON.

Fashion: Shape up beautifully while softening your skin

Lots of us use anti-ageing skincare, but more often than not, we forget to take care of the skin on our body. Did you know that your skin loses 1% of collagen each year after the age of 20%? With that knowledge in mind, Triumph launched its Shape Sensation collection, which cares for your body while you shape up. Made from an innovative fabric called Novarel, which firms, lifts and softens skin using active ingredients, you can step out with more confidence with better, more defined curves.

Local celebrity Dynas Mokhtar also raved about the collection, saying, “I recently had a second child, and my tummy is so stubborn! I need Shape Sensation more than ever now that I’m breastfeeding. My skin feels smoother and my tummy is flatter too.”

Shape Sensation is available in all Triumph boutiques and leading departmental stores nationwide.

Fun: Making a difference to save the environment

Earlier this month, Kiehl’s took us for a day trip to Sungai Panjang, Sabak Bernam, for its 4th Save Our Rare Earth Eco Camp. The camp is organized in partnership with Yayasan Anak Warisan Alam (YAWA), an NGO dedicated to raising environmental awareness. We were awed by the passion of the young eco-warriors (from primary and secondary schools), as we helped build a new jetty for the villagers, constructed river-cleansing mud balls (made from mud and enzymes and brown sugar), and wrapped the fragile fruits from berembang trees (a natural habitat for fireflies) to protect them from harm.

Despite the rain, everyone was game and willing to be a part of the event. Local designers Amir Luqman and Khoon Hooi braved the rain and mud to join in all the activities. Together with fellow designer Ung Yiu Lin, they’ve designed limited-edition labels for one of Kiehl’s bestselling products – the Ultra Facial Cream. All net proceeds from the sale of these limited edition products will benefit the YAWA Foundation.
