B ig news this autumn/winter, the military trend is back in business. Go on, get ready to stock your closet with a double-breasted coat, some stomping tough boots, and functional bags. The colour of focus? Olive green, of course (but we find that brown and black work okay, too). Working the military fashion is often a great way to update your formal wear – think pencil skirts, think subtle details like gold buttons on your favourite structured jacket. However, if you don’t want to overdo it, let us break it down for you. Here are three staple pieces to instantly amp up the military factor in your outfit:

1. The Coat/Jacket

Zing! Instant military points, in our book at least. Work it while our daily rainy weather allows you to. We especially love the super chic tailored, structured coats/jackets, although the olive green parkas do seem a little more comfortable.

2. The Tough Boots

Stompin’ black tough boots – golden to wrap up that edgy, luxurious military look. These probably work best with leggings, or skinny jeans for daily wear, if you’re trying to keep it inconspicuous – but hey, long dresses or pencil skirts work just as well. Don’t just take our word for it. Go on and experiment for yourself.

3. Anything olive green

If you’re not especially into tailored, structured coats/jackets or stompin’ tough black boots, but you’re still looking for that military flavour, our advice: try anything olive green. That should do the trick.
