T hey say you can tell a lot about a person by the company that they keep. Which means that if the kind of people they hang out with are cheerful, optimistic and outgoing, chances are they might be too. Or if the company a person keeps is rowdy, noisy and well, not particularly pleasant, chances are they might be the same too.
Although this is not 100% true all of the time, there is still a certain amount of truth to the statement. Think about it – people usually like to hang out with people who are similar to them because it makes it that much easier to get along. Great minds think alike and all that, which is basically just saying that people like to hang out with people they can click with and see things in common with.
Also, the kind of people you are exposed too tends to rub off on you eventually if you hang out around them long enough. How do you think slangs and new words are passed around? We tend to copy or mirror those around us, whether it is done intentionally or unintentionally if you hang around someone long enough.
Of course that statement is not 100% accurate because sometimes opposites do tend to attract, and you do see the occasional, most unlikely sort of friendships. Sometimes.
Most of the time however, we tend to mingle with those who are similar to us in one way or another. Think about your own group of friends for a minute – how similar are they too you? In fact you might have a few different groups of friends for the different things you like to do or enjoy doing. Either way, your friends are all similar to you in one way or another, no?
So if you want to see what kind of person you might be dealing with, you might want to take a look at the sort of company that they keep. It can really be a good indicator as it will exposed different sides to a person that they might not necessarily show otherwise around you at first.
For relationships especially, this can be a very helpful indicator about the sort of partner you may be dealing with. Look at the group of friends and he or she spends the most time with:
- Are they genuinely nice people?
- Are they friendly, funny and outgoing? Or are they rude, obnoxious and just a complete pain in the butt?
- Do they cover up for each other? Do they lie to cover each other?
- Are they the cheating kind? Or are they loyal?
- Do they treat their partners with respect?
Think about it. The company a person keeps could tell you a lot of about the different sides of who they are. Because birds of a feather do flock together. Most of the time.
