O ne thing that still baffles me is why older women try to pull off an outfit that is so obviously meant for someone much younger than she is. I mean, there is nothing more appalling for me than to walk around a shopping mall and see a much older woman dressing in something that is waaaayyyyy too young for her. Even worse if the outfit she happens to have on happens to be something that either myself or one of my friends have.
If even younger women find it appalling and even embarrassing to find out they have the same outfit as a woman who is much older and clearly shouldn’t be in the same ensemble, I can’t imagine why it would not bother the older woman.
Now I’m not criticizing anyone here, because we’re all free to dress as we choose and if you don’t care what anyone else says about you, well then more power to you! But I’m saying that I don’t see anything wrong with older women dressing in outfits that are more appropriate for their age group.
Just because you happen to be the “older” generation, doesn’t mean that your clothes have to be boring, not at all! In fact there are lots of stylish and elegant clothes out there these days and there’s no reason to try and pull off the latest trends in an effort to still feel young.
Here’s why women shouldn’t try to dress in ensembles that are clearly not meant for them:
- You Look Peculiar: Maybe you think you’re coming off as hip and trendy by following the latest fashion trends meant for the young, but truthfully you just look like you’re trying too hard. An outfit is obvious when it is not meant to be worn by someone of your age group and believe me, people will notice.
- You Come Off As Someone With No Self-Awareness: Someone who is older trying to dress in an outfit that looks like it could be meant for your daughter is clearly someone who has no self-awareness. Or else she would have notice the peculiar looks and whispers of others wondering why she doesn’t dress her age.
- You Come Off As Desperate: Honestly, I don’t know about the rest of you, but when I see someone who dresses inappropriately for her age, she comes off as someone who is desperate to try to cling to her youth.
- You Draw Unnecessary Attention To Yourself: And believe me this isn’t the attention of the good sort. People will be looking at you all right, but if you think it’s because they’re admiring your fashion sense, think again.
- People Won’t Take You Seriously: What makes you think people will take you seriously when they see that you can’t even dress your age?
There is nothing wrong with dressing appropriately for your age. If you do it right, you can still look trendy, classy and stylish while looking sensible and polished and like a woman who has a lot of confidence as well. Isn’t that much better?
