A fter a dry spell of really good, worth-watching movies at the cinema since Black Swan, it was a relief to finally have something worthy of spending money to view at the box office. The Adjustment Bureau looked like a movie that could go either way – be really good or a real let down – but luckily the movie headed in a positive direction.

Matt Damon stars as David Norris, an ambitious politician whose world is thrown into a tailspin after he happens to glimpse what fate has in store for him through the Adjustment Bureau. A seemingly chance meeting with talented ballet dancer Elise Sellers (Emily Blunt) leaves such an impact on him that when they keep meeting by accident, David realizes he is falling for her. But David also learns that there is team of men who will stop at nothing to keep David and Elise apart because the two of them being together does not fit in with fate’s plan. Now David has to make the choice between accepting what fate has planned for him, or take free will into his own hands and defy the plan.

Big clap for the screenwriter, he did a good job. It’s hard to find a movie that really intrigues you into thinking “what if things really aren’t as they seem?” I mean, could you really imagine if what we thought was actually fate really wasn’t? Or things that we think happen by chance is really not happening by chance at all and is merely part of a plan?

Good performance by Blunt and Damon in this one, they played their characters well. It was actually suppose to be a science fiction/thriller movie which is suppose to make you question whether there really is such a thing as fate and free will, but it really ends up coming off as more of a romance movie between Damon and Blunt.

The movie falls into the science fiction, thriller, fantasy and romance genre, so viewers who fall into this category will enjoy watching this. Even if you don’t fall under the stereotypical group of audiences this movie is targeted for, you’ll still find it an enjoyable watch because of the interesting storyline.

It isn’t a movie that will have you on the edge of your seat with your eyes glues to the screen, but it does keep you curious enough to want to keep watching, wondering who the Adjustment Bureau are and why they wish to keep David and Elise apart.

It not as good as deep seated as Inception was though, so those who are expecting the storyline to fall somewhere along those lines might be a little disappointed. Inception set the bar high, and it would be quite tough to follow up on that, although the Adjustment Bureau certainly tries to make a good attempt.

Movie Rating: 4 Stars (Out of 5)
