S kipping meals in hopes of losing weight? You’re probably not the only one to do so. A lot of people are under the misconception that if you skip meals, you can lose the weight that you want quickly and effectively. But then, they get frustrated when they go off the diet and find that they have gained double the weight they had before. Why?
It’s simple. Because they don’t have their weight loss facts right. If you’re trying to lose weight but going about it the wrong way, of course you’re not going to achieve the results that you want. And in fact, a lot of people who have actually gone off their diets tend to gain even more weight than they once did.
If you really want to lose the weight, and more importantly keep it off, then get your facts right and start things off the right way:
- Skipping Meals To Lose Weight: DO NOT skip meals in order to lose weight. This is the most basic mistake that a lot of people tend to make. You may drop a kilo or two, but what you’re actually losing is water weight, when what you really need to be losing is fat. Skipping meals only sends your body into starvation mode, and it will actually end up conserving fat instead. The minute you stop dieting – BOOM!- all the weight comes back and you’re back to square one.
- You Must Eat Breakfast: They don’t say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day for nothing. While you sleep at night, your body has not had anything to eat for at least 8 hours, and if you don’t have breakfast in the morning and choose to wait until lunch instead, your body is going to go into starvation mode again. Eating breakfast will help to kick start your metabolism.
- It’s OK To Snack - It is OK to snack, as long as it’s healthy. By snacking, we don’t mean you’re free to munch on all the candy bars and chips that you want. If you really are hungry in between meals, opt for light fruits instead like an apple or maybe some nuts as the healthier alternative.
- Drinking Plenty Of Water Is A Must - Sometimes when your body feels those hunger pangs, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re hungry. When our bodies are not drinking the amount of water that we need, it can come off as hunger pangs too. If you do feel those hunger pangs, try drinking some water, give it a while and see if you still feel hungry after that. You might be surprised to find sometimes your hunger pangs go away after your body has had some water.
- Know your calories - Losing weight is all about the number of calories you consume in a day. Ideally, the average person should not consume more than 2,000 calories in a day. Anything more than that and it is likely you’ll put on weight. Whenever you purchase something, make it a habit to read the labels at the back and know how many calories what you’re buying contains. Keeping track of your calories is a good way to reduce the weight slowly and gradually.
