O ne of the major trends to come out this season is metallics. The metallic trend has definitely been a big hit since the past few weeks of holidays and celebration. But now the trend seems to have been carried forward to the year 2011. Seen on fashion forward girls like Dree Hemingway, Olivia Palermo and Blake Lively, metallic trend is bigger than it has ever been before.
Some people might shy away from metallics for the fact that they could be quite a tricky look to pull off. But when they are done correctly, they could transform into fireworks and that final Midas-touch needed to spruce up any outfit. Even a self-declared minimalist or a fan of Calvin Klein’s brand of simplicity needs a day off to step it up a notch with a spark of metallic.
But how to rock metallics without looking like a candy wrapper or street performer? We got you covered.
Always stick to only one or two metallic items at one time. Metallics are definitely not a head to toe look. A metallic green dress as demonstrated here by the new It girl Dree Hemingway doesn’t need a pair of sparkly shoes or bag to go with it. And Iman paired her dark metallic jacket with a basic tee underneath and tailored pants.
If it is your first time wearing anything metallics, start small with accessories like a belt, clutch or glittery shoes.
Remember that silver looks better on lighter skin tones, while gold is perfect for warmer complexions.
Wear metallics on the slimmest part of your body. Perhaps a belt to accentuate your tiny waist or a body-con dress if you have those beautiful curves that make heads turn.
As for make-up, Kim Soane, Manager of Artistry for Bobby Brown Cosmetics always tells her client ‘not to apply metallics everywhere or they’ll end up looking like a disco ball. Instead choose only two areas, like the eyes and cheeks.’
Now who says metallic is impossible to pull off?
