H ere at Emmagem, we are all about opinions and new ideas. After all, this is about fashion and we are now here in 2011 where rules don’t really apply anymore. But the thing about fashion is we always need to hear from others and get some point of view. Well we do have to be comfortable and confident with what we chose to wear but comfortable can sometimes be mistaken with sloppy and being confident can end up translated into hoochie.
So you are older now and have successfully graduated from disco hair, acid wash, boxy jackets and the millennium. You keep on asking whether you can still pull off Kim Kardashian’s look or should you head towards Julia Roberts direction? Would people mistaken you for Demi Moore if you dress too young? Or are you feeling so old that you are raiding your mom’s closet?
The good news is there’s no clear rules on how to dress up as you get older. Even if there is a set of rules, there’s always exception for each and every one of them. Here are just things to ponder and consider each time you are on a shopping trip or just at home trying on some old clothes:
Cropped tops
Mid-riff after teenage years and high school is just so uncool (unless you have the washboard abs). But if you still feel like you really have to wear it, layer it up.
Big knickers vs. thong
We have all heard of VPL and we know the solution is g-string and thong. It is understandable that at certain ages these undergarments no longer give you the support that you needed down there but Bridget Jones’s granny knickers are not recommended. Boy-shorts are the best option. They don’t leave a VPL and you will be well supported.
Slogan tee
The “I’M WITH STUPID” tee is not that cool anymore for your age. You want to portray a different image and you are no longer the cool rock-chic from the nineties.
Hot Pink
If Nicki Minaj is you fashion icon and you wear outfit in hot pink more than any other color, you need to rethink your outfit. There is nothing wrong with pink. A dash of pink in your everyday look keeps it interesting and show the fun side of your personality. But head to toe pink is not recommended let alone pink wig like Nicki Minaj.
Denim micro mini/ daisy dukes
This is a teenage girl staple. It looks great on them and it might still do on you. But this is a whole new you. Let’s leave the mini and daisy dukes to younger girls. You can wear denim skirts, but they should either be longer and in darker wash.
But like mentioned earlier, there are exception to all these. Some people believe that you could carry any outfit with insane amount of confidence and of course a killer physique. But when you are in doubt, don’t do it or get a second opinion.
