A lthough trends seen on the runways take several months or even years before they finally hit the mainstream, there is just no good enough reason to still be wearing items from summer 2004. A day spent at the mall here in the city and we can witness way too many passé items being worn as if they were still cool and very much in trend. Wearing old, timeless pieces from your closet is one thing, but wearing seasonal trends from three years ago is just so wrong.

Let’s look at some of the items that are still ‘hot’ according to some people. Wait until they read this and they’ll realize that we are swiftly moving forward to 2011 and Jessica Simpson is now a few pounds heavier.

glad

Gladiator flats made their debut back in the mid-Naughties and were seen on the stylish feet of Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Naomi Campbell. But that was back then when boho-chic was all the craze in fashion. There’s nothing wrong with gladiator flats. They’re just no longer in style. If you want to get comfortable, wear a ballerina flats and they will never be out of style.

leggings

leggin

Legging under tunic or dress trend was another reaction to the boho-chic phase several years ago. And it is totally understandable how more modest women of this region love it for the fact that they can wear short dresses but still have their legs all covered up. But sadly, it’s out of trend now. Lauren Conrad and the gang used to wear their summer dresses with leggings underneath in one particular season of MTV’s The Hills. But this is 2010 and even The Hills is now over.

polo1

Polo shirt for women was another trend still seen in the streets of our city. There was a sudden obsession for everything preppy back in 2004 and polo shirt was one of the must have items for that season. Seeing those oversized horse of Ralph Lauren polo shirt really made us all cringe. So please swap your old polo shirt for a simple t-shirt. Simple and oh-so-chic.

blair

headband

Blair’s headband is a trend that honestly makes sense only on TV but in real life it makes you look either like Minnie Mouse or a six-year-old. It was all the rage a few years back but now it’s so over. Need hair accessories? Get a scarf and play around with it.

shrug

Shrug and it doesn’t matter whether it’s knitted, crocheted or made out of cashmere is definitely out. If you are a big girl and too shy to show off your arms, wear a cardigan or a jacket. Why do you want to wear a pair of separate sleeves for your sleeveless dress or top?

straight

And finally super- straight flat-ironed locks is another trend that doesn’t have anything to do with fashion at the moment. Even Victoria Beckham has a little bit of wave and body to her hair now. Why do you want the world to know that you don’t have a natural straight hair?

Still rocking all of these trends ladies? Then please make it stop.

but sometimes you NEED to wear leggings because the dress is just too short! especially some of the dresses these days..better to be modest than reveal too much i say!

I think it doesnt matter what season clothing comes from its how you wear it and what your style is….dont follow the crowd and only wear whats considered ‘in’, other wise you will be just another clone. Wear what works for you and be individual!

while some of it is true, i dont see anything wrong with polo shirts. they are classic.. well unless of course you are asking us to be fashion victims. Not a very good piece of article imho.

I agree with Elise. But instead of those knee-length 80s-style leggings, go for opaque tights which will never go out of style.

Btw, this article is not suggesting people to become fashion victims. Just a few options of new trend to replace the same things that some of us have been seen in for the past few years.

    Change is always good.

Someone sent me this link on leggings….why suddenly so much controversy on leggings? Just makes you wonder what the hoo ha is about, is it time to re-look at leggings?

I think this link published on WAO is a bit extremist- and taking leggings to a different level, probably something some of us do think about and others not.
