F inding yourself dragging your feet going to work? Yawning multiple times and struggling just to stay awake at work in front of your computers? Find yourself performing your job half-heartedly? Yup, it could be just one of the few signs that you’re lacking motivation at work.

Lacking motivation at work is a symptom that many of us suffer from, regardless of whether you are young or old. Unless you’re lucky enough to be in a job that is absolutely perfect for you doing something that you love you don’t feel like you’re working at all, many of us suffer from this at some point of another during our working careers – or sometimes all the time! Especially those who have been at their jobs for sometime now and they just feel bored and stagnant.

For the young people especially in today’s job market, feeling a lack of motivation for their work sometimes leads to them job-hopping a lot from one company to another in hopes of finding greener grasses somewhere else. But is that really the solution? Could it be possible that the reason that you’re feeling this lack of motivation has nothing to do with your job, but more to do with your attitude?

Doing the same job everyday in the same company, of course you would tend to feel bored after a while, but what makes you think job-hopping and switching jobs can bring you better satisfaction? Is there really any guarantee that just because you change jobs you won’t feel bored anymore? Of course not! Work is work, and no matter what job you are doing, if you do it often enough you will get bored eventually and hence, lose motivation to work.

Instead of thinking job-hopping is the solution, why not try to change yourself before you change up your job? Why not try little things at work to motivate yourself too? Take some time out for 5 minutes or so whenever you feel you’re about to fall asleep on your keyboard and maybe go and talk to a co-worker for a while? Nice friendly chits chat for a couple of minutes and you can return to work once again feeling much better and less sleepy at least. If your company allows you to access social networking sites like Facebook, browse through Facebook for 5 minutes or so if you feel you need a mini-break.

The best thing you can do if you’re feeling a lack of motivation at work? Go for a holiday! Why not take a nice vacation or some time off from work? Even a few days or one week away to refresh and recharge yourself can actually do wonders and you’ll return to your job full of energy again.

Try to stop focusing so much on how boring your job may be or how much your dread going to work everyday. Instead try to think more positively and not concentrate so much on your feelings towards your job. The more you focus on it, the worse your lack of motivation may be. Instead of blaming the job, take some initiative to find things that motivate you and focus on that instead.

Everyone is different so find out what cheers you up and try to incorporate that into your everyday working life.
