London Fashion Week has come to an end. A lot of fond memories shared throughout the week and so many beautiful moments backstage and on the runways. But for us it has to be seeing our local boy Jonathan Liang showing his collection at ‘A La Mode’ and the closing party of London Fashion Week.
The collection is so well-received that prior to the event, his work had been used for an episode of Britain’s Next Top Model and three pieces from the ‘A La Mode’ unveiling was selected to be worn by front-row audience members to some fabulous London Fashion Week parties. He even flew straightaway to Paris after his successful show at the London Fashion Week for a shoot featuring the collection.
Now the collection by this MIFA’s 2010 Most Promising Designer is all about structure and armour-like silhouette. The tailoring is sharp and combination of black, gold and nude give each garment strong futuristic edge without being too pretentious and over the top.
The key look is accentuated shoulder and bare-legs. It’s interesting how Liang came up with all these jackets and one-piece that looks super-strong on top with very wide necks and structured shoulders but have extremely girly plaids, feathers and draped bottom. The darker portions of the collection come in the forms of skinny pants with patches, jackets and sheer tops.
The future is definitely looking bright for Jonathan Liang. Talking from fashion point of view, this is not only about making the nation proud but having more creative and young designers like Liang will hopefully give new colors, attitude and perspective to fashion world.
