A slow week at the cinema is the only reason I actually agreed to watch this movie in the first place. I don’t have a strong stomach and from past experience watching such movies, blood and gore leave me feeling queasy and disgusted and promising never again to watch such movies. Hmmm, perhaps I should start keeping that promise.
After watching Jaws as a kid, I remember being terrified of going into the water for a period of time, and I was certainly in no hurry to watch another show featuring underwater terrors that bring your worst water-related nightmares to life. But like I said, it was a slow week at the cinema.
Piranha is about a school of pre-historic man-eating fish that are accidentally released from their underwater prison by a tremor. These little terrors wreak havoc among their helpless prey – humans. The movie stars Elisabeth Shue, Jerry O’Connell, Ving Rhames, Adam Scott and Jessica Szhor.
This is hands down the most disgusting and gory movie I’ve watched for this year – quite possibly even worse than Jaws! Disgusting, bloody, gory and definitely not a movie for those who have weak stomachs and can’t stand the sight of blood for sure.
It’s a B-Grade type of movie all right with not much of a storyline, unless you count man-eating fish killing every single human that happens to cross their path a storyline. This is one movie I won’t be watching again anytime soon – or probably every again for that matter.
I would give it a one and a half star rating.
