Black or brown, square or round, one fashion accessory that makes you look good when you’re walking down the streets is sunglasses. A classic staple since the days of Audrey Hepburn, every girl should own at least one pair of sunglasses that makes you look good, and in this heat, sunglasses is definitely a must have.
Aside from looking good, they also protect your eyes, especially for people like me who get blinded by the scorching sun far too easily. I can live without my trusty pair of sunglasses. My current favorite pair is from Charles & Keith, which I recently purchased last month.
I couldn’t resist having a look at their sunglasses display (although their shoes have more of a magnetic pull for me, I just can’t resist a cute pair of C&K shoes!). Browsing their selection of sunglasses – although there was not a lot of choice to choose from- I found this one pair that I loved it the minute I saw it on the display.
With medium-sized brown color frames, sleek handles, and a two silver square plates on either side of the handles with “Charles & Keith” elegantly carved on to it, I instantly grabbed it and dashed to the nearest mirror to try it on.
Now, the thing about sunglasses is, you want to get one that is a perfect fit for you. I know it is tempting to blindly follow the fashion trend of our favorite celeb or just some random person we see walking down the street that has a particular pair of sunglasses on that looks really cool, but DON’T DO IT!
It’s the same rule we use when we buy clothes – buy what suits you, or you risk leaving people with the thought of “didn’t she look in the mirror when she got dressed today?”
When it comes to sunglasses, only two basic rules apply: identify your face shape and select the frames that suit your face cut. Here are some basic face shapes and the kind of frames you should go for:
Square-shape face: go for rounder frames, as they will soften up the edges of your face and make you look less angular. Follow the stylings of Jessica Simpson, Hillary Swank & Sandra Bullock as some examples of celebrities with square faces.
Round-shape face: aim to make your face look longer, slimmer and angular. Go for frames that wide or rectangular as these will best suit your face. Think Kate Winslet and Drew Barrymore.
Heart-shape face: try, oval, square or rimless glasses to soften up some of the angles on your face. Look to Naomi Campbell, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Lisa Kudrow for examples.
Oval-shape face: lucky you! You’ll be able to pull off just about any kind of frame and still look good! Use Jessica Alba, Cameron Diaz, Julia Roberts & Tyra Banks as your style icons.
If you’re not sure of your face shape, look it up online or get someone to help you identify your face shape before you head out shopping for your sunnies. You don’t need a whole lot of things to be fashionable or stylish as you walk down the streets, just a good pair of sunglasses.
