how to remove scars at legs?

liya

Hey there Liya,

You’re not alone, we all have scars on our legs and body parts which we regretfully scratched until it became permanent. Well, if no one else has this problem, I do! I’ve always had this huge scar on my legs and looks very ugly when I wear short pants/skirts.

We’ll ask readers of emmagem to help us:)

The best way and the first thing you should do to  help you in your quest to remove scars of course, is to consult a dermatologist. Anything else, can come after that. They will consult you with the best way to remove scars on any body part. I guess, if you have the ka-ching($$$), you can opt for laser treatment wich will successfully remove all visible scars.

But, if you’re like me and have no $$$ for laser treatment, you can try home remedies or off the counter products. I’ve been asking around my friends on what to use to remove scars. Most of them point me to one product which can be bought at pharmacies off the counter. It is called Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Vitamin E Scar Serum. Long name eh, its quite pricey too! They have a whole range of products to help you remove scars and dark skin spots. This Palmer’s serum has Vitamin E on it which actually helps, according to some research and people. But some research states that it does not help a lot and some people might actually be allergic to it, depends on each skin type. Be careful when using creams like that, do a patch test first before using it on actual scars. I guess it does not really remove scars, but it can be minimized. Mederma is another brand of cream which states that they can remove scars better than Vitamin E can.

Home remedies?

We live in Malaysia with grandmothers and aunties who usually will have many ways to do things differently at home. I’m sure you’ve heard some stories! This article suggests home remedies using tropical honey and onion extract.

What do you suggest?

Anything you’ve used or has been told worked for you? Share with us tips, products or even treatments!

(The products/treatments in this article are suggestions only, please consult your doctor before using any of them, okays?)

i had a back accident when a whole shelf rack fell on my legs n tore my toenail n cuticles out of the nail bed last year Sept…it also scraped a chunk of my skin out n left a 1 inch long scar on my foot…so shy to wear my slinky shoes.

Nowadays i hide behind boots, gladiator sandals and socks with mary jane shoes or sneakers…i m using bio-oil everyday for past 3 months and it has lightened a bit…i m going to try their serum when my pay comes out…i will let u all know if it works or not…

I am so worried that if I were to take my wedding photos…the graphics person would have to airbrush and photoshop my scars away ler… :( Laser is not in my budget somemore. Hope these bio oil thingies work…

My grandma once told me to not consume soy sauce after any injury. It makes the scar more visible…

  13. Valerie May 14, 2009 at 3:36 pm #

Try Rosehip Oil. I had a deep gash on my left foot after an auto accident 7 years ago. The wound was deep and the scar did not fade completely but the rosehip oil helped to lighten it. I used only one bottle which lasted about 1-2 months. The scar is now the same colour as the rest of my skin. Totally not obvious anymore :o )

Lea, Valerie, Eve: Thanks for the tips!:)

  16. nur May 15, 2009 at 4:13 pm #

try vit.E capsules! u know the supplement thingy u can get at the pharmacy? the one that looks like jellybeans. juz poke the capsule and apply to cleansed face everynite! u might feel the oil a bit sticky but hey, it works!

  17. karenmarie May 15, 2009 at 4:47 pm #

Nur: Wah, that’s like very direct, the usage of Vit E!

  18. amy May 17, 2009 at 12:45 am #

the cheapest way to lighten scar is by using “bedak bunga tanjung”. its a powder made from natural plant ,u add water and make into paste, then scrub it into the part that u have scar.used it daily during shower and u’ll notice ur scar colour will lighten.my legs was full of scars cuz during my childhood i tend to get scabs.u can get this thing from mydin supermarket or any stall that sell malaysian based beauty product.there are 2 main brand, the one that i like is this one http://www.melur.com/prod_detail.asp?item_id=237 bcuz it doesnt leave ur skin so yellowish .the usage of this powder also will help to clean the skin like never before.however i blive in the usage of vitamin oil and serum to repair the skin surface.

I haVe plenty of scars on both my legs, no thanks to a trip to Sarawak outskirts. I was terribly bitten by sand flies and they’re no ordinary bites. Woke up in the middle of the night, every night to scratch the bites till sometimes they bleed. ): Boohoo. My legs became terribly horrible with uncountable scars like I had some serious skin disease. Onlookers always look when I wear shorts, too thick-skin. True story ok! Uber itchy and painful. I applied Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Vitamin E religiously for a year and surprisingly the scars started fading tremendously. ((: My legs are not all perfect now, but at least, it got better lah. Oh, and I think drinking the Yakult drink helps too. It may sound strange but seriously, it helps cos of the billion microorganisms and all that crap lah. Heh. *happy wappy*

I think it depends on how severe your scar is. I have tried Mederma on my sunken scars which apparently didn’t work at all. Anyhow I learn that sunken scars are one of the most difficult scar to heal unless to consult a dermatologist.

As for acne scars, I have used aloe vera gel and it worked very well for me.

i’ve the same problem too. the scars really lower my confidence because i cant wear short sleeve shirt and also shorts/skirts. :( and party dresses. blergh. so sad. :(

i have tried the cocoa butter scar serum, smells like dead fish and i stop using it after one bottle. cant stand the smell and its so expensive. i’m allergic to mederma, because it makes my skin even more gatal. :( bio oil works well for me. the result is noticeable. but due to my irregular usage, the scars took a looonnnggg time to heal. haih lazybum. in order to heal ur scars, u have to be discipline. jangan malas malas sapu ubat. *self note hehe.

dear amy, yang bedak bunga tanjung tu, is it like the yellow powder, called bedak rambai something? i’ve tried that one, bagus jugak. works as scrub as well. it removes dead cells and skin gets smoother.

  29. mizz sharon February 4, 2010 at 2:33 pm #

    Bio Oil DOES NOT WORK!
I have this friend who has been applying BIO oil for close to a year already, yet there is only 10% of lightening of the scar area.

I have minor acne scars on my chin as well. Desperately wanna get rid of it. Am gonna try Palmers Vit E serum, have been reading pretty good reviews about it. =)

  30. yetmee February 4, 2010 at 4:55 pm #

Apprently Clinique’s Derma White Brightening essence works on scars, but a bit expensive for the legslah. am stil trying out product let u know end of the month …but take antioxidants as well for scar clearing…

Any pure vitamin oil should work… apparently Bio Oil is the no 1 seller in its category accg to the cEO in BFM interview…guess it works more for stretch marks…

  31. ieykadina October 20, 2010 at 5:14 pm #

yup…juz use bedak bunga tanjung…n u’ll see the difference withinn 2 weeks…ur skin will b very smooth without scar…n b4 going to sleep, try wash ur face with tea powder…brand doesn’t matter…ok…

  32. megha March 1, 2011 at 9:07 pm #

Try aloe vera and cucumber, tomato juice to remove scars

  33. haziq March 2, 2012 at 11:53 am #

there are these two local products that can really help to remove scars and i recommend you to use *bedak bunga tanjung* or *bunga rambai* and you can find them at Malaysia product stall or Jamu stall..they are so damn cheap!. hmm i guess less than RM5. To use it is easy, just add some water to it and gently scrub your skin and just leave it dry. After a week you’ll see that there is a good outcome to your skin. Good luck!.:)

  34. yetmee March 4, 2012 at 3:42 pm #

Hi Haziq, wow, sounds like a great solution, I have seen my mum using it long time ago to cool the skin…well sounds good if it serves a dual purpose…
