I do declare I may have found my true love alas…

Platforms are all the rage and yet I have never really owned a pair until recently . My friend MohNee introduced me to the soon to be perfect shoes for my bunioned feet, a pair of platform wedges. Wedges are not new but amazingly like all true loves , it creeps up on you as Maria Digby would sing. Our first introduction on the Midvalley selling floor was casual ,I tried it on, admitted it was comfortable but oh  well,  they always are when you first try ‘em on, not so impressed.  At RM399 a pop , it is  too expensive  and  a price I am not willing to  pay. Of course comfort wise, much better compared to the  4 inch high gladiator platforms  which we tried on earlier, gorgeous to look at, but the problems usually crop up in a relationship where one party is too gorgeous for words, good looking shoes like men, merely  adorns the feet but really doesn’t serve you or your back.

And like most good looking men , it takes a while to get over, once you chance on a good pair. But I am through with shoes that just look good on my feet but is excruciating to wear and has over the long term been the cause of many  a bunion. I finally acknowledged the fact that where shoes were concerned I am,  I mean was,  really turned on  for their good looks, never the functionality nor my feet’s comfort and paid the price I have indeed. I feel the battle scars every time I wear a pair of shoes these days.

The realization that I have not been taking care of my feet and am now paying the price came about on a recent trip to Singapore when, after a long day at the fair , my friend Debbie suggested we go to a reflexologist at a foot spa near Orchard Road to give our feet some hard earned break. The shocked exclamation of the reflexologist , her exact words in Mandarin were “ohhhh , the price of vanity” at the sight of my angry red swollen bunioned feet were enough to make the whole room come to a standstill and that’s when the realization that I have not been taking care of the two most important mobile apparatus of my body, hit home. I was a little ashamed at my neglect and having taking them for granted for so long  though they serve me well and faithfully!

So I have vowed, henceforth I shall not be seduced by mere visually seductive shoes but to ensure that they are functional and most important loves my feet as much I love them, the shoes. And by love , I mean truly deeply caring , soft and sensitive to the cries of pain of my much worn feet and is always comforting. To test, I give ‘em a good run for their money, almost literally on the shop floor before putting my money down on them. It isn’t that I am playing hard to get and all, but a girl’s gotta look after herself and if she can’t make a  studied and thorough decision like the shoes that house her feet that carries her all yonder (not too melodramatic, I hope) and most importantly completes her attire, she probably isn’t making many other sound judgments in her life too… but that’s just me. So  I now proudly  stand on steady feet that are clear of pain and delusions ready to trod down the many aisles of my glorious  life.

Platforms according to Mohnee and other afficionados of them , is usually  light and gives the feeling of walking on flat floor because they are made like a platform (err durghhh). They are a bit like teddy bears ,looks chunky and fierce but gentle on the feet. No unnecessary pressure on the balls of your feet . No tilting to the front and gripping tightly with the front of feet, gritting teeth and all.

I decided to revisit the store and check out the wedges couple days ago , kinda like  give them a chance trip and  really tested them out and before  long I ”succumbed” to their charms even though they were already on a serious, I mean serious price markdown. Now price  alone sometimes could  have been the prime  reason for many mistakes the “oh  so cheap buy first, regret later” philosophy , yeah you know that one :-)

… and our first trip out together was pure magic!

I have bunions too! Nothing really major but enough to be a hassle when i want to buy beautiful ballerina flats or high heeled covered shoes which are always so narrow.
Is there any way to get rid of bunions?

Hey, Sy, bunions are okay with ballerina flats …get the ones that are of soft leather or the elasticated PVC or cloth ones. Then line them with silicone pads…I promise you they work… I wear my ballet flats for my non vanity . rehab feet days, which can be a lot of days in the week… And take pressure off front of foot when wearing them…I’m learning how to walk differently these days…lols)

And try stilettoes with rounder fronts , they’re cute too and line them with silicone pads again…
